I am a writer and professor investigating the impact of social media on communication and commerce. I teach classes in Business, Communication, English and Information Technology to adults throughout various Southern California campuses and worldwide in asynchronous on-line classrooms. I also own Generative Learning Group, a provider of training and development materials that empower organizations with information for work and knowledge for life.
I am drawn to teaching because, while it can be as challenging as it is rewarding, it allows me to help shape the future of other people while giving my own life greater meaning and purpose.
Before endeavoring into education I worked in marketing for more than a decade during which time. I designed ads, brochures, direct mail, public relations campaigns, presentations and websites. In my capacity as a consultant, I have developed management training programs, summer internship initiatives, computer-based training modules and online recruitment procedures.
An award-winning writer, I have published eleven academic papers and presented nine of them at academic conferences. I am now writing a reference book for small business owners titled, “The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Human Resource Management and the Law.”
With deep journalism roots, my byline can be found in local, regional and national publications. I also maintain a blog, doctorious, with which I chronicle my adventures in academia as a teacher and student, while featuring stories related to the courses I teach.
Educationally, I hold an MBA from Woodbury University and a BA in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing from UC Santa Barbara, where I graduated with Phi Beta Kappa distinction. I also completed 16 units in a Doctorate of Education program in Organizational Leadership at Pepperdine University. I am now identifying doctoral programs in which I can investigate my research interests.
Raised near San Francisco, I was born in Boston and consider myself a Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox fan. I enjoy graphic novels and admire superheroes from the DC Comics universe. I have also had a lifelong fascination with aviation and space travel: I hope to earn a pilot’s license and would gladly take a trip on the Shuttle. When earthbound you can find me living in the Los Angeles area.
